Dr. Robyn Metcalfe is the editor and publisher of Food+City, an innovative project that explores the future of our food system. Food+City’s current initiatives include an online magazine, the annual Food Challenge Prize, and a documentary film. The purpose of these projects is to explore how even the most simple food items arrive on our plates and how entrepreneurs can improve our global food system.
Her past careers include writing and production management for Sunset Magazine, strategic planning for Arthur D. Little, Inc., and writing articles and books on a wide range of topics from food history to the theft of high technology. In 2012, her book, Meat, Commerce and the City: The London Food Market, 1800-1855, was published by Pickering & Chatto.
As higher education began to offer food-related courses, Robyn completed a PhD in food/history from Boston University to develop some of the first syllabi on food at the college level.
